A Day of Connection
Sometimes creativity begins where sight ends and imagination takes over. In 2016, Nivedita Saboo collaborated with the students of the Pune School for the Blind, encouraging them to explore art through touch and texture. Sand, rice, coarse grains, and other tactile materials were placed on canvas alongside paints, allowing the students to create freely through instinct and feeling.
Their uninhibited expressions became the foundation of “Unlearn,” a collection that translated these tactile artworks into powerful design narratives. By giving the students a platform and voice, Nivedita transformed their creativity into couture, presenting the collection on an international stage at London Fashion Week 2016.
Stories of strength
Compassion found its most powerful expression when creativity became a force for change. Through this meaningful initiative, designer Nivedita Saboo reimagined fashion to honour the courage and resilience of acid attack survivors, the true heroes who continue to inspire strength and hope. The collection was crafted in 100% super-fine gentle cotton, in serene ivory accented with gold and heritage block printing, symbolising dignity and renewal.
By dressing these women in custom-made ensembles, the House of Nivedita Saboo sought to celebrate their individuality and restore confidence. Rooted in a belief in human rights and empowerment, the initiative stood as a heartfelt effort to affirm every individual’s right to a life of dignity, beauty, and respect.
AD-DRESS - Inclusive and Adaptive Clothing
Fashion becomes truly meaningful when it responds to the needs of every individual. When Ekansh Trust and Foundation, led by Ms. Anita Iyer, approached the House of Nivedita to advance the idea of Adaptive and Inclusive Fashion, it opened the door to a powerful collaboration between creativity and functionality. With over seventeen years of experience in the fashion industry, Nivedita Saboo, alongside Ms. Geeta Castelino and Mr. Raju Bhatia, supported research and design initiatives that created garments both aesthetically refined and functionally empowering for the specially-abled.
Through her involvement with AD-DRESS NOW, India’s first nationwide adaptive clothing design initiative, Nivedita served on the jury and advisory panel, encouraging young designers to create thoughtful, inclusive garments. The initiative championed clothing that allows specially-abled individuals to dress with dignity, independence, and confidence, reaffirming the belief that fashion should belong to everyone.
