A native Pune resident, Nivedita forayed into fashion at 19 after graduating from the National Institute of Fashion Technology (NIFT, New Delhi) as a valedictorian of her class in 2000. Nivedita continued her style endeavours by bagging a stint at Arvind Brands as the youngest head designer for international brands like Arrow, Lee and Wrangler in 2001.
In 2002, she launched her eponymous label with the humble setup of just one tailor and one sewing machine. Her creative ingenuity and technical skills combined with business acumen led to the exponential growth of her label into a design house with international accolades and acclaim.
Nivedita opened her first flagship store on Fergusson College Road in Pune in 2006, followed by another boutique in Kalyani Nagar in 2012 and on Juhu Tara Road, Mumbai in 2016. Spread across a colossal 10,000sqft of luxury retail space, the salons have become go-to destinations for purveyors of objects of timeless elegance and couture.
Two decades later, the House of Nivedita’s practice remains rooted in tradition, while imbuing with modernist reflections. Every piece of couture from the House is a visual poem recited in clean lines, precision cuts, flattering fits and handcrafted ornamentation. The indelible design language is amplified with technology and technical details to resonate with the new-era connoisseur.
In her creative process, Nivedita defies defined design dogma and instead focuses on crafting couture and prêt collections that spotlight the fantasy and romance of various eras, giving it a new lease with contemporary influences. Florals juxtaposed with architecture play a pivotal role in the creation of the House’s modern heirlooms. The gestures are woven in the brand’s signature Cut & Sew masterpieces. It’s also evident in the intricate details like edgy power shoulders and meticulously crafted architectural embroidery. Blurring the lines between fashion and art, the pieces have garnered support from over 18,000 patrons from across the world, including royals, celebrities, influencers and industrial magnates.
